Oxford suburb set for new sports pavilion

Following a hard fought campaign that lasted for 13 years, those living in the Headington Quarry district of Oxford will finally be getting the new sports pavilion they have sought.

Earlier this month, Oxford City Council announced that it would be carrying out a consultation with residents over the new building, which will be located at the recreation ground in Margaret Road.

Local councillor and former Mayor of Oxford Dee Sinclair indicated that the news was a relief, following a lengthy campaign, saying to the Oxford Mail:

“I’ve been campaigning for it ever since I became a councillor.

“It’s been a long time coming but we’re very happy that we’re going to get a new pavilion that can be used by children and the community.”

Local campaigns of this kind often utilise flyer and poster printing in Oxford and similar places to help win the support of people living there.

She went on to state that the existing pavilion is in a poor condition, and she had even felt “embarrassed” when football teams from other areas had visited and used it.

The pavilion is primarily utilised by Quarry Rovers children’s team, who also use the recreation ground as a pitch.

Last month, the local council confirmed that £1.2m had been ring-fenced for a new pavilion on the same spot as the existing structure.
