Oxford opens up to folk music

The folk singer Eliza Carthy MBE is presently on tour and is due to play a show in Oxford towards the end of April.

Lauded by traditionalists as well as modernists, she expresses a vibrancy symbolic of the genre's contemporary revival. Born to musicians Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, Eliza found herself steeped in the traditional scene, being championed early on by John Peel and Billy Bragg.

She crosses musical boundaries both in terms of content and style. As a soloist or fronting a band such as 'The Imagined Village', delivering an old ballad or a new self-penned song: her voice, fiddle-playing, and distinctive performances have all significantly influenced many younger artists.

Eliza is a twice Mercury Prize nominee, winning many accolades, including BBC R2 Folk Awards, over her 30-year career. She has recorded and toured worldwide, working with Paul Weller, Kae Tempest and Jools Holland, amongst others

2022 saw her release the album 'Queen Of The Whirl' featuring new interpretations of fan favourites. She simply describes herself as a modern English musician and remains an impressive talent.

Tickets are priced at £22. Printing services can be a useful resource for those involved in the promotion of a concert or musical event.

Eliza Carthy's show has a starting time of 7.30 pm on Saturday 20th April at North Wall Arts Centre, Oxford.
