Oxford gets set to host Chinese dance company

The cultural event that is Shen Yun - China Before Communism is due to give several performances in Oxford in mid-January.

This type of dance is an extremely old art form. It presents an artistic vision that magnifies traditional theatre into a multi-dimensional experience, an odyssey that explores Chinese history and culture.

The stage production introduces the audience to and immerses them in Chinese folk tales reaching as far back as 5000 years. There are classic stories about love and death, humour and heroism that touch on the realms of magic and the divine.

Every performance is composed of around 20 rapidly moving pieces, shifting from one legend or period, dynasty or region to another. The themes vary considerably from life at the Tang Court, to military exploits on the battlefield or Lao-Tzu's philosophy.

Classical dancers in their elaborate costumes bring this all to life through dance choreography and original orchestral scores. They themselves constitute an artistic elite who perform poetic musical arrangements.

Shen Yun visits around 150 cities across the world each year including Tokyo, New York, Paris and Sydney.

Ticket prices start at £67 and are subject to a booking fee. Brochure printing can be a useful resource when presenting and promoting a forthcoming musical and theatrical event.

Shen Yun - China Before Communism will take place on Saturday 14th January and Sunday 15th January at The New Theatre, Oxford.
