Oxford festival celebrates strength and solidarity of women

The Oxford International Women’s Festival 2019 celebrates its 30th birthday this year and will kick off at the end of the month.

The festival makes a welcome return to Oxford and will coincide with International Women’s Day, on March 9. Through a versatile series of events from talk panels and discussion groups to workshops and film, the successes of women will be celebrated and explored.

The festival will begin on February 28 with ‘Hymns for Robots’, a performance showcasing the sonic genius of Delia Derbyshire, the brain behind the Dr Who theme tune. Other highlights of the event include an open mic film night, the young women’s music project and a talk by astrophysicist Professor Katherine Blundell. Festivals and other similar events can use brochure printing to create programmes outlining a schedule of events.

Established 30 years ago, the International Women’s Festival continues to be a major event in the city of Oxford’s calendar. Covering topics from science and art, to social campaigns such as sweated labour and the homeless, the festival has always celebrated women’s creativity and raised awareness for their rights. It places an importance on representing women of all ages, nationalities with both groups and individuals included.

2019’s theme is ‘We will survive and thrive’ comprising the past, the present and future of women in Oxford.
