World film festival a success in Market Harborough

Organisers of a global film festival, held in Market Harborough, which featured Lutterworth's own David Knight appearing in one of the entries, have described the event as a great success.

The Three Swans hotel staged the three-day British International Amateur Film Festival and over 230 films, representing 20 countries, were shown at the festival.

Film group IAC ran the event and Mark Whyman, IAC's national chairman, said:

“We go to a different venue every year, but Market Harborough has worked out very well for us, so we may be back in the future”.

The organisers were able to spread the word about the festival after promoting it both online and offline. Offline, they were able to use local marketing services, such as promotional items and bespoke Business Cards.

Films included a Western from a Southampton filmmaker and a French comedy that revolved around fridge freezers.

A film called ‘I Am’, from South Korean director Lee Ji Eun, won the best film award at the festival. A Korean embassy representative received the award on Ji Eun's behalf. Cardiff filmmakers Ian Smyth and Rhys Lewis won Best British film with ‘No Hidden Extras’.

‘Archway 0173’, made by filmmaker Pat Smith, received the KPM Prize along with a five-star rating. Smith’s film, partially shot in Lutterworth, will be screened in Cannes in May.
