Reopening of Lutterworth Town Hall draws closer

Preparations for the reopening of the town hall in Lutterworth are underway.

As a Grade II listed building, the town hall on Market Square has to be treated with respect. The installation of a modern lift has improved the functionality of the building, which is 185 years old. An £18,000 donation enabled the work to go ahead, which came from the Landfill Communities Fund of building materials company Tarmac. The hall should now be more accessible for people with disabilities.

Stephen Walkley, a member of Lutterworth Town Hall’s committee, told the Harborough Mail that:

“The old lift was installed in 1989 and was so unreliable that people didn’t want to risk using it. We are very grateful to Tarmac for their support.”

Walkley pointed out that the introduction of an adequate lift will enable the town hall to function more efficiently. In particular, the hall is going to be a venue for community groups and weddings. Paperwork required by venues like this can be sourced from local Stationery printers.

The lift will facilitate access to the upstairs Hansom Room. This specific space is used by Age UK and the University of the Third Age. Pilates and fitness sessions will also take place in the building. The local Citizens Advice Bureau will continue to operate from the town hall.
