Kimberley Bateman, 23, aims to fly off to the South Asian country this spring, as a worker for the Restless Development organisation, which enables young adults to visit deprived countries and provide their help on a voluntary basis.
The organisation works alongside the ICS programme, which is financed by the government, and Bateman told the local press that £800 is needed so that she can demonstrate that she is committed to the Restless Development programme.
She has already secured some of that money through a coffee morning and fun run, with these two events bringing in over half of the necessary amount. Now she Plans to undertake the 172-mile walk between Glasgow and Inverness next month in the hope of raising the rest.
Speaking to the Lutterworth Mail, she said that beginners such as herself usually needed between 10 and 14 days to walk this route, adding:
“I am going to be doing a mixture of wild camping, using campsites and hostels during the hike and will be carrying everything I need with me.”
Local fundraisers of this kind often rely on places offering leaflet printing, to help get the word out.
