Church in Lutterworth secures lottery organ grant

Those who attend the Lutterworth Methodist Church have reason to be praising the national lottery, following the news that the church is to be awarded a grant of £26,900 for the restoration of its organ.

The money will be donated by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and follows an application for grant assistance submitted in January.

The work on the organ is expected to cost in the region of £32,000, with the rest of the money having been secured through two years of fundraising by the congregation. Campaigns of this kind frequently utilise the help of printing companies in Lutterworth and other small towns that are capable of producing the quality, eye-catching poster printing needed to publicise them.

Bill Tomkins, from the church council, stated:

“It has been known for a long time that the church organ is in dire need of restoring. It has never had a major overhaul in all the time it has been used at the church.”

The organ features 700 pipes, some of which measure up to 16 feet in length. It was built more than a hundred years ago from a design by F. Luke Wiseman, a minister in the Methodist church who also created the design for the organ in Nottingham’s Albert Hall.

The refurbishment work is due to get underway in 2015, and should be finished by the spring of the following year.
