Call for Lutterworth residents to donate used trainers

People who live in Lutterworth and the wider Harborough area are being called on to donate any used trainers or running shoes that they have lying around to help with a new initiative.

A number of sports and leisure centres across the district have joined forces on this initiative, which is called JogOn. The aim behind it is to send unwanted trainers to people around the world who need them, rather than these items ending up on landfill sites. The centres are working with non-government organisations and charities on the project and are urging people to donate.

Lutterworth Sports Centre is one of the places that will have a collection bin installed for these donations, along with Harborough Leisure Centre. Both are owned by Everyone Active, which is a prime mover behind the scheme.

Centres like these can turn to flyer printing shops in Lutterworth if they need effective promotional materials to raise awareness of charity projects like JogOn.

Speaking to the Harborough Mail, Matthew Hopkin, the contract manager for Everyone Active, said that the company was happy to get involved, before adding:

“We would encourage people of all ages to donate their unwanted running shoes so that they can experience a second life, rather than simply going to landfill.”

JogOn is stating that over 30 million trainers finish up on landfill sites each year.
