Plans for memorial site in Epsom move forward

Work on the building of a memorial in Epsom to honour those who lost their lives in the First World War has been completed, and this is just the start of the Plans for the site.

This memorial has been in planning for half a decade and it is located within Langley Vale Wood, which is close to Epsom Downs. In addition to the war memorial, there will also be a nature reserve created at the site, with a centre for visitors to find out more about the wildlife in the area. In total, the project is set to cost £8.5 million to complete.

It will be split into three different sections, with the first one – in Cherry Avenue – featuring boards containing stories about the war from local people. The section called Regiment of Trees will have 80 trees alongside 12 soldiers made out of stone. Finally, the section in Jutland Wood has seen the planting of 6,097 trees to mark the exact number of people killed at the Battle of Jutland.

Brochure printing is sometimes used so that visitors to local attractions like this can get more detailed information about them.

The chosen site for this particular project was bought by the Woodland Trust five years ago, and work to create the nature reserve and memorial has been ongoing since then.
