Theatre in Epsom to be given upgrades

The main theatre in Epsom is set to undergo a series of upgrades that are intended to make it more energy efficient.

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council planning committee has approved these upgrades for Epsom Playhouse. They will see the gas boiler removed alongside six air-handling condensers on the roof. In place of the boiler, six brand new heat pumps will be installed. Meanwhile, the obsolete condensers will be replaced with four new condenser units that do the same job.

Not only will the changes make the theatre more environmentally friendly, but they will also reduce noise pollution. Acoustic panelling is to be fitted in the areas where the pumps will go, which will act as a noise dampener. This will improve the experience for audiences attending shows there.

Poster printing by shops in Epsom can be a very useful service for local entertainment venues. This is because they always need promotional Posters for their upcoming shows.

Epsom Playhouse was first opened back in 1984. Over the years, it has played host to everything from live comedies and dramas to dance and opera shows. The theatre is run by the borough council and the planned work will help meet net zero goals.

The actual theatre building is Grade II listed, but the work will not affect it. The Plans were approved on the grounds that they will be beneficial to the public.
