Epsom may be set to enter into a twinning relationship with a town in Ukraine, as the borough council has announced that it is exploring the option.
The town in question is Bucha, which is located within the province of Kyiv Oblast. Epsom and Ewell Borough Council recently organised a meeting of its resources and strategy committee to discuss the matter. A working group has now been created to find out whether the twin town scheme is viable before the local authority makes its decision on the matter.
One of the people who spoke at the meeting was Lionel Blackman. He is in favour of the plan and argued that Epsom already has strong links with Ukraine due to the kindness and generosity residents have shown since the start of the war with Russia.
This includes hosting cultural events, welcoming refugees from the country and raising millions in aid. Blackman argued that twinning Epsom with Bucha would be a way to further strengthen those bonds.
When towns take part in twinning schemes, they often advertise the fact using Banners. Epsom has banner printing outlets that make it possible to do this.
If the council decides to go ahead with the idea, a lot of the heavy lifting would be done by the Bucha-Epsom Association. This is a voluntary organisation.
No decision is expected before the summer at the earliest.Get a Free Quote for Banners
