MBE award for nurse from Epsom

A nurse who lives in Epsom and works for the NHS has been recognised for her services to nursing in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, with the awarding of an MBE.

Arlene Wellman was born and brought up in Trinidad and Tobago before moving to the UK, and she works for Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust as its Chief Nurse. In addition to that role, she also serves as Infection Prevention and Control Director, as well as being in charge of healthcare, midwifery and nursing support services.

It is a demanding workload, and a spokesperson for the hospital stated that Wellman had been central to its efforts to combat Covid-19. Hospitals often make use of Stationery printers in the same area to supply the administrative Forms they need.

Speaking to the Surrey Comet, Wellman said:

“I am truly humbled to be awarded an MBE, and was very surprised to be told I would be receiving an honour – it hasn’t really sunk in yet!”

The nurse went on to add that she had realised that helping others was her vocation back when she was still living in Trinidad and Tobago, and that pursuing nursing had allowed her to follow that dream.

Wellman concluded by thanking her fellow members of staff at the hospital and stating that she was proud to be working there.
