Grant given to charity in Epsom

A grant of more than a thousand pounds has been given to a charity in Epsom that provides a support service for people living in the local area who are partially sighted or blind.

Epsom and Ewell Talking Newspaper (EETN) has been in existence for 45 years and every week, it records the local news, as well as magazine stories, which it then sends to people with blindness or partial sightedness so that they can keep abreast of what is happening. The charity received a £1,550 grant from Toyota GB, as one of a series of awards the company is offering.

Toyota set up the ‘Fund for a Better Tomorrow’ to provide community projects and charities based locally with small grants, and the staff at EETN opted to apply for one of these. Charities in the borough also often get good rates from businesses like printers for products such as Letterheads.

Hannah Davies and John Ryan from Toyota GB’s Corporate Social Responsibility department visited the recording studio to see the charity at work and hand the cheque to them. Speaking to the Surrey Comet, Judy Sarssam from EETN said:

“In order to continue with our free audio service, which necessitates renewal of recording equipment plus memory sticks and boom Boxes for our listeners, we rely heavily on kind donations.”

Ryan added that the company was delighted to help.
