A memorial that has been created to honour the memory of those who died in the First World War has been unveiled in Epsom.
The memorial is a mural will feature the names of those from Epsom who were killed during the conflict, with the names set to be added throughout the period it is on display. In total, there were 444 people from Epsom and nearby areas killed during the four years of the Great War, and all of them will be included on the mural, which is located in the Ashley Centre.
Councillor Neil Dallen, the current Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, performed the task of unveiling it and the ceremony was also attended by people representing the Royal British Legion’s local branch. Those organising tributes for anniversaries such as this often make use of local places that offer banner printing to help them produce memorial Banners.
The Ashley Centre also hopes to collect lots of stories from people in the area who had relatives that fought in the war, so that these can be incorporated into the tribute alongside the names. The centre is asking people to contact them by phone if they have such stories to share.
This mural went on show at the centre on 11th October and it will remain there until 11th November.Get a Free Quote for Banners
