This year’s Epsom Derby could take place as a one-day event behind closed doors, as the organisers of the annual race look for ways to hold it during the coronavirus crisis.
The owner of the race track, Jockey Club Racecourses, has applied to Epsom and Ewell Borough Council for permission to host both the Derby and the Oaks races across one day during the summer. If the Plans are given the go ahead, there would be no spectators present for these prestigious races, to conform to social distancing rules.
The application is requesting that the council be flexible about the exact date for the races to take place, because there has not yet been any word from the government about when horse racing can get underway again.
Big sporting events like this that are held locally are often advertised using poster printing services from Print shops based in the town, and even if spectators are banned this year, people will still want to know when the race is happening.
For the plan to be workable, bridleways and footpaths near the racecourse would have to be shut off to the public for 24 hours to ensure no spectators were present.
The proposals will be considered at a meeting of the council next week, with 4th July put forward as a potential race date.Get a Free Quote for Plans Get a Free Quote for Print
