Animal charity in Epsom benefits from bunny walk

A local woman opted to undertake a five-mile walk through her home town earlier this month wearing a rabbit costume, with the aim of raising money for an animal charity in Epsom.

Lucy Meadway is the owner of a company that provides care services for rabbits, as well as hamsters and guinea pigs. She walked through her home town of Sevenoaks on Good Friday, clad in a suitably Easter-inspired bunny outfit as a fundraiser for a charity called The Bobtails Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue.

This organisation is based in Epsom and every year it manages to find new homes for around 800 guinea pigs and rabbits that have been abandoned by their previous owners. Promotional pens and other similar products are often used by such charities to help spread the word about their services.

Thousands of bunnies are abandoned by owners each year, and speaking to In Your Area about her decision to take on the five-mile walk, Meadway stated that she had been motivated by memories of sometimes neglecting her own pet rabbits during her childhood.

She went on to add that:

“Sadly, as much as I loved them, they became a chore. For many rabbits that means ending up at a rescue, with a long wait for a forever home.”

So far, her walk has brought in £445 for the animal charity.
