The social housing erected in London in the start and middle of the last century widely influenced design in the rest of the UK, and visitors and residents alike are invited to take a look at these in more detail.
The stroll will start at the charming cottages of the Old Oak Estate in Acton, and will continue through to the Wormholt Estate, which was part of the ‘Homes for Heros’ campaign under Prime Minister Lloyd.
The Cleverly Estate and White City Estate of the 1920s and 130s are also included on the route, and a 1960s modernist block - perhaps less visually pleasing, but none the less interesting - is also on the agenda.
The event organisers gave participants a taste of what they can expect on the walk:
“You’ll see an incredible range of architectural styles and layouts in less than three miles. We’ll explore many of the dilemmas that still challenge social housing in London today, and the respective roles of the public and private sectors, affordability, quality and density.”
Poster printing is often used as a way of promoting events within public housing areas.
The East Acton to White City walk will be held this Sunday, 18 February, from 11am to 1.15pm. Tickets are priced from £10.
