Acton to explore poster art

A well-known museum in Acton will be hosting a special exhibition dedicated to Posters this spring.

Based in Acton, the London Transport Museum Depot is renowned for its treasure trove of relics and collectibles depicting the UK capital’s travel solutions throughout time. Now, the world-class museum is opening its doors to visitors keen to learn more about the artful poster used by London Transport over the years.

The upcoming exhibition entitled “The World of Posters” will allow attendees to explore and gain an education from the museum’s extensive catalogue of transport posters that dates back to around 1905. To this day, professional poster printing services produce advertisements and signage for enterprises across London, detailing everything from safety advice and opening hours to products and pantomimes.

Led by expert museum guides, the curated tour will explain how different poster designs characterised the city and its transportation system for over a century. The museum is presently home to over 320,000 different artefacts and more than 30,000 of these items are posters featuring 7,000 unique designs.

Along with a chance to examine the depot’s collection, guests visiting the four-day exhibition can enjoy informative talks with curators, historians, and artists.

The World of Posters exhibition will take place at the London Transport Museum Depot on Museum Way in Acton from April 21 to 24.
