A history-focused group based in Acton has given a glimpse into its upcoming events for next season.
The Acton History Group recently revealed its planned events for Autumn and is inviting visitors to attend.
In September it will host a talk called “Inhabitants of Shalimar” by Bob Surtees based on biographies and research regarding the mansion built on Acton Farm while October will see Patrick Russel explore the topic of Syon Park with the group. Finally, November will see Anthony Smith share his knowledge with attendees in a talk entitled: “The Uxbridge Road – Walked and Revisited.”
The Acton History Group has been involved in researching a wide range of aspects of the history of its local area for many years and has published a variety of titles. Those seeking to self-publish often look to expert printing services to produce high-quality hard Copies to sell.
The group’s publications include “Tin Hats, doodle bugs and food rations” a memoir of Acton during World War II by Maureen Colledge and “Waitrose Seeking to Attain Perfection” by Janet Appleyard-Hobbs. Acton High Street was the site of the first ever Waitrose shop, which opened in 1904.
Regularly gathering on the second Wednesday of every month between September and March, the Acton History Group meets in St Mary’s Church Hall at 7.30 pm in Acton. Admission to non-members is charged at £2 per person.
