Vaughn poet set to release her latest collection

A successful writer from Vaughan is gearing up to release her latest book of poetry for fans to enjoy.

Kamal Parmar’s book, which has been produced by a local print company, is titled ‘Rising Mist’ and is her second collection. Before she became a poet, Kamal concentrated more on works of non-fiction.

The first volume she produced, which was published in 2010, was called ‘Fleeting Shadows’. It told the story of her experiences while living in India.

A mother of two children, Ms Parmar was born in India and attended university in Punjab where she received her Master’s degree in English Literature; she has said how she has always enjoyed the works of the classical English poets. Kamal later immigrated to Canada, and lived for several years on the prairies before moving to the BC town of Nanaimo.

Her newest book is due to be released in November, and has been inspired by her walks along the shores of the Humber River and the Boyd Conservation Area. They tell of the beauty of nature and the river mists that surround her when she is out exploring the natural world.

While Kamal has only lived in Vaughan for a year, she has already become a very active member of its literary community. A member of the Ontario Poetry Society and Vaughan Poet’s Circle, she frequently gives readings at the Bathurst Clarke Resource Library. She also helps organize and attends other area literary events.

A launch event for her latest work will be held at the Bathurst Clarke Library in November.
