From monarchs to painted ladies, mourning cloaks and beyond, Ontario is home to a diverse group of butterflies, and these colourful flying insects will be the focus of a Vaughan activity planned with adults in mind.
The Kortright Centre for Conservation offers a variety of learning opportunities for all ages, and its Butterflies of Ontario workshop will give those age 19 and up a deep dive into the species that call the province home. It will be a five-hour long activity and a registration fee of $75.00 is being charged.
During the session, the presenter will cover topics related to butterfly life cycles and ecology. It will begin with learning the basics in a classroom setting before heading outdoors to observe them in the field. Everyone will learn tips for IDing the different species, and it will be on offer at 9550 Pine Valley Drive in Woodbridge, Vaughan. Anyone who would like to sign up but has concerns about accessibility is asked to contact the organizers at least seven days in advance.
Learning about wildlife may help spark a desire to protect it for the future. Basic field guides, species ID checklists and flow charts and other materials for a workshop can be prepared by Print shops.
