Vaughan welcomes new recruits

Vaughan’s mayor, members of the city council, the interim city manager and the city’s fire chief were all on hand at a recent ceremony to welcome and pay tribute to the city’s latest group of new firefighters. The event was held at the Trio Sportsplex.

The 30 graduates who successfully completed the 14-week Vaughan Fire Rescue Service Recruit Training Program were given their certificates by the mayor and fire chief on January 15, while their proud friends and family members looked on.

They were not the only ones honored. There were several officers who were newly promoted from within the existing ranks. They were given the designated helmets they will wear during the course of their duties.

It was noted that the members of the Fire Rescue Service are ready for duty around the clock, and not all their effort comes during times of emergency. They are active in their community all the time, and they facilitate lessons in safety education, conduct community outreach programs and volunteer in a wide variety of other ways.

There are currently 300 members of the service who work out of 10 stations throughout Vaughan.

First responders are an essential part of the human infrastructure of any city, and ceremonies such as this not only recognize the achievement of completing their training, but also pay tribute to the efforts of the service as a whole.
