A Vaughan climbing gym is looking to take things to the next level this April with a “ninja” style obstacle competition, part of the Canadian Ninja League.
The event will be a competition across two courses, each with obstacles designed to test the balance, agility and wits of contestants, as well as physical strength and endurance. Each participant will be allowed to run the full course, with one point gained for each obstacle cleared within the time limit. The exact obstacles will be kept a secret until the day before the competition. There will be a number of different age classes, from children aged 6-8 to ‘masters’ 40 and up, as well as ‘pro’ and ‘amateur’ ranks for adults.
This will be the first Canadian Ninja League event hosted in Vaughan, but it is part of a broader structure of competitions across the country, all hosted by independent gyms. Attendees are encouraged to register for the larger Ninja League, with the possibility of advancing to higher-level competitions. Events such as these, inspired by the international success of shows such as Japan’s Sasuke and American Ninja Warrior and often advertised through eye-catching flyer printing and social media, have been a way to bring a new group of people to gyms and climbing centres.
The Vaughan Canadian Ninja League competition will take place at Steel Peak Climbing on Saturday, April 16, 2023.
