Vaughan to celebrate Earth Hour with special events

Later this winter, residents of the city and surrounding area will be asked to come out to Vaughan City Hall and show the earth some love.

The city will be hosting an Earth Hour Vaughan Celebration, which will take place at City Hall. There is a varied schedule of events, raging from an exhibit that gives tips and hints about how to save energy around the house, lantern making and an Environmental Jeopardy Game for secondary school students to test their knowledge of the natural world around them. Signs for events such as this can be produced in a way so that they can be used year after year, which fits in with the overall theme of “going green”.

After this, there will be grand opening ceremonies and a lantern walk that will wind its way along city streets, rain or shine. These who prefer to ride are invited to take part in a moonlight bike ride. Later, live entertainment will be available, as well as refreshments, then the Green Hero Awards and other prizes will be given to those who have shown environmental innovation and stewardship throughout the year.

The event is scheduled for March 19. Members of the public who wish to participate are asked to bring along their reusable cup and environmentally friendly light source. Those who would like to take part in the bike ride need to first register with the Bicycle Users Group.
