Vaughan to celebrate Canada Day digitally

The city of Vaughan is well known for its award-winning Canada Day celebrations, but this year the event will be taking place in a different way through its first-ever virtual celebration.

Vaughan citizens and business owners have been invited to record a 3-7 second video message celebrating the holiday and giving an idea of why it is significant to them. The best videos will be shown during a livestream on the day itself.

The event will be sponsored by Greenpark Group, 100 CN, the Carpenters & Allied Workers Local 27, and other businesses and organizations. Last year’s celebration took the form of a free concert at North Maple Regional Park, headlined by Juno-winning reggae-pop group Magic!

The turn to digital celebrations is a trend taking place across the country this Canada Day. The federal government and CBC will be providing a day-long series of speeches and performances from the likes of Paul Brandt, Leela Gilday, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Atlantic Ballet of Canada, as well as highlights of fireworks and musical acts from past years. Public events like these are typically advertised through poster printing campaigns, which will likely remain relevant alongside online advertising and social media outreach.

Vaughan’s virtual Canada Day celebration will be streamed on the city’s website during the evening of July 1.
