Vaughan seeks nominees for new awards

The city of Vaughan has initiated a new award that recognizes the contributions of its residents, and it is seeing nominations for the first recipients.

The recognition, named Order of Vaughan, will recognize those who have made a difference in the community through their participation in activity that benefits the city. These include the areas of health and wellness, arts and entertainment, not-for-profit, public service, the environment athletics, equality and diversity education, science and technology, accessibility, spirituality and philanthropy.

If they are to be considered for the award, the nominee must either currently reside in Vaughan or have lived there over a long period of time in the past. They must also be living, although it is possible that recognition may be given on a posthumous basis at future events. Current employees of the city, municipal, provincial or federal appointees and elected officials are not eligible for consideration while they are currently in office.

Those who wish to nominate an individual can do so by completing a form that will be made available at City Hall, online and at any of Vaughan’s public libraries or community centres. Supporting documents must be included. Stationery printers can design and produce award certificates and other items that will be given to the recipients to recognize their efforts in the community.

The deadline is August 5. The successful nominee will be recognized at an annual awards ceremony.
