Vaughan seeks feedback on renovation

The City of Vaughan is looking for community response to proposed renovations to the Maple Community Centre.

Maple is Vaughan’s largest community centre, measuring 148,000 square feet, and it is also one of its busiest. The renovation process began in 2017 with an assessment of the centre, which was first created as an arena in the 1970s. Changes already made include a redesigned library space and fitness changing rooms. Now, the city is seeking input on which of several proposed renovations and additions it should pursue as part of a broader feasibility status. The public survey comes following consultation with community centre staff on services and functionality.

Proposed changes to the community centre include a renovated pool, new recreational activity spaces, clearer signage and a transformed fitness centre. The city will be taking feedback through e-mail and other online venues. Municipal governments often use public consultation to direct upcoming changes, including approaches ranging from flyer printing to in-person meetings. The city has posted an online public information session in the form of a video, and aims to directly appeal to residents and seeks their opinions:

“Your voice matters. What proposed amenities are you most excited to see? What improvements are you hoping this revitalization will provide?”

The City of Vaughan will be taking consultation on the Maple Community Centre renovation through online feedback until January 8, 2023.
