Vaughan invites feedback on park plan

The city of Vaughan has announced that it is looking for public input on the next stage of its plan to build up the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC).

VMC is a planned community that aims to provide a downtown core to Vaughan with shopping and leisure. The next stage of development includes creating a series of parks and other green spaces, as well as creating a signage strategy for the area.

A large park is included in the plan, which developers have compared to London, England’s Hyde Park. The city has described the philosophy behind the parks plan, also known as the VMC Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan:

“The plan must embrace opportunities to make great places, enhance natural features, locate public art, improve multi-modal mobility and increase the vibrancy of the emerging downtown. It will identify gaps in service levels and provide a pathway to implementation that guides strategic investment.”

The city has opened a period of public consultation for residents to have their say on what features and concerns they will be looking for in the VMC’s green space. All citizens are encouraged to submit feedback through an online portal. Past consultations held this summer included discussions around public washrooms, open patios and bike lanes. Cities and towns often use tools like Forms and brochure printing to solicit feedback from their residents on upcoming changes.

The feedback form for the VMC Parks and Wayfinding Master Plan opened on November 16 and will be available until December 12.
