This year’s March Break will look a little different for kids in Vaughan, but the McMichael Art Gallery will be providing a week-long camp experience through online programming.
The digital camps will offer two streams. The Art Explorers program, aimed at kids aged 7 to 12, will feature a virtual viewing of the gallery’s exhibitions and workshops, helping them create their own art. The instruction will include media such as watercolour paints, chalk pastels and pencil sketches. The Digital Photography Camp is designed for teenagers aged 13 to 15, and it will be led by professional photographers. The week will deal with the hardware of digital cameras, lighting tips and digital editing.
Both courses will be offered on the digital platform Zoom. The week-long March Break offered in Ontario schools is a popular time for students to participate in indoor day camps teaching a variety of skills and interests, which are often advertised through tools like brochure printing and website. The virtual format is a new approach that has been designed to offer a safe and accessible experience.
The McMichael Gallery will be offering its camps between March 15 and 19. Students are encouraged to register ahead of time and to have proper equipment, such as paints and brushes for Art Explorers and a digital camera for Photography Camp.
