The Vaughan International Film Festival is set to return with a series of drive-in screenings displaying a wide variety of movies from around the world.
This will be the 8th edition of the festival, a not-for-profit event that aims to showcase Canadian and international short films. After being canceled in 2020, this year, the event will return for three nights of drive-in screenings.
The Friday and Saturday showings will feature eight entries each, with titles such as “Fish Out of Water”, a Canadian drama about a boy with cerebral palsy; “Daughter”, a Czech animated short about forgiveness and parenthood; and “Jill & Giles”, an Irish documentary about a seafaring couple.
The event will conclude with an awards screening of the six nominated movies, followed by a pre-recorded Awards Show, where the top short will be crowned. The festival weekend will be preceded by a series of other drive-in weekends. The first, called Sony Pics Flicks, will pair classic blockbusters like “Men in Black” and “Jerry Maguire” with selected short films, while others will focus on past festival hits and student films. Drive-in screenings like this, often promoted through flyer printing and social media, have experienced a revival in the past year.
The Vaughan International Film Festival will take place between September 24 and 26 at 80 Interchange Way, with additional screenings taking place every weekend in September.
