Vaughan area speaker event to return virtually

The Richmond Hill Spring Speaker Series will be returning this year using a virtual, live-streamed format.

The Speaker Series typically brings expert speakers on a variety of topics to Richmond Hill, with the aim of attracting an interested audience from nearby cities such as Vaughan. This year’s series features six speakers, with one each week from April to mid-May, and focuses on topics related to history and contemporary politics. Talks include “But I can still do something” from photo journalist Leah denBok, “Lessons from the project that built, launched, and sank the Titanic” with business consultant and historian Mark Kozak-Holland, and “A strange and secret wartime journey” by renowned nonfiction author Daniel Black.

The six lectures are packaged together as a bundle for online purchase. The series is a biannual event with spring and fall editions. It was first held in 2018 and is co-produced by Marj Andre and Mary Kot. This is not the Speaker Series’ first digital edition, with last fall’s events also taking place over Zoom, featuring guests like documentary filmmaker Mark Terry and local PhD candidate Stacy A. Costa. Educational speakers like this have grown in popularity with general audiences, using social media as well as tools like poster printing for promotion.

The Richmond Hill Spring Speaker Series will kick off on April 7 and continue every Thursday morning until May 12, with all events hosted virtually on Zoom.
