Over the past several years, Vaughan has experienced a period of rapid growth, and this has led the city to begin the process of assessing its current electoral boundaries. It is seeking the public’s input to determine which of three options they feel is the best.
The possibilities being explored by the city’s consulting team include maintaining the current system of five wards, creating a sixth ward so that the present levels of populations in the wards can be maintained, or lowering the number of wards to four. The third option would increase the average population from each ward to 89,500 from the existing average of 62,800.
The consulting team, which consists of Hemson Consulting, the Canadian Urban Institute, The Davidson Group and Beate Bowron Etcetera, are interested in obtaining the public’s input to determine which option they feel is the most viable. The group plans on having a recommendation by September of 2016. After that, the public will be consulted once again, and a final report prepared for presentation to city council by January of 2017. A printing company can produce bound Copies of reports such as this for distribution to the council, members of the public and any other interested stakeholders.
