An exciting, eco-friendly program for new homeowners was just announced in the Lake Simcoe Conservation region at the north end of Vaughan. Anyone who buys a new home in a residential development participating in the program will know that a significant amount of money has been raised for the conservation of the surrounding natural areas.
The conservation organization has joined forces with developers under the Inspiring Green Communities (IGC) program. Participating developers donates $250 per home to the ICG program for every new dwelling constructed in the coverage area. Homebuyers are then given an environmental welcome package upon completion of the sale that contains green products, memberships, coupons, and flyer printing with environmental information from local companies.
The program will raise money for the conservation of the area’s natural areas, as well as provide homeowners with information on living an environmentally-friendly lifestyle and the environmental benefits of low-impact, sustainable communities.
The groundbreaking program has already had a significant impact. When complete, a new residential community in Innisfil will raise $500,000 for the ICG, which will then be used to protect the air, land, and water in the local area. Another project in Keswick will raise $37,500.
The ICG program projects to be a win-win situation for homebuyers, developers, and the environment. Homebuyers will know that buying a home in a participating neighborhood is helping the planet, while developers can market their homes as a green community. Conservationists can use the money for environmental restoration, public awareness campaigns, and sustainable community initiatives.
