Group of Seven welcomed back to Canada

The Group of Seven is one of the most popular groups of artists that Canada has ever produced, whose influence on Canadian art cannot be overemphasized. The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is basically its home gallery - a couple of the members of the group are even buried on its grounds.

‘Painting Canada: Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven’ is an exhibit that has just returned from a tour of various galleries in Europe and is showing at the McMichael until January 6, 2013. It is a joint production of the National Gallery of Canada and the Dulwich Picture Gallery, the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design in Oslo, Norway, and the Netherlands’ Groninger Museum. It features 122 works of the Group of Seven, many of them seen very rarely, and takes over five separate galleries at the McMichael. The works include Tom Tomson's West Wind and A.Y. Jackson's First Snow.

Several related lectures and book chats will be taking place during the exhibition. A catalog has also been produced for the exhibit and is available in hard cover for $75 or soft cover for $45. The catalog was written by Ian Dejardin and provides the history of the Group of Seven, features a good deal of their artwork.

This important exhibit is no doubt being widely advertised by the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. It is very likely that Vaughan printing companies have been called upon to provide Flyers, catalog printing, and other literature that can be distributed to the community.
