Escape room launches new virtual games

A Vaughan area escape room location has adapted to the age of social distancing with a series of virtual adventures designed for groups of problem-solvers, with new adventures having recently launched.

The virtual experience is hosted by Casa Loma and has been created through 360-degree room scans, allowing distant players to search and zoom in on their surroundings.

One scenario, Station M, allows players to control a real-life “remote actor” moving around a mysterious train station attempting to discover its secret. Another scenario, called The Gold Getaway, places visitors in a virtually created environment as they aim to crack a safe within a time limit, with a plot concerning 1920s-style bootlegging.

Casa Loma's physical location in Toronto was a popular spot for locals, as well as those from surrounding areas like Vaughan. The use of imaginative plots, decor and graphic design that recalls the style of past eras helps escape rooms like Casa Loma distinguish themselves in a crowded market. The booming industry, often used as corporate team-building exercises or get-togethers between friends, was hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, but virtual experiences can replicate the enjoyment safely.

The Gold Getaway and Station M virtual experiences launched in December, and games are available to be booked into February. Games can be privately booked by teams of six, with the virtual environment able to accommodate up to 120 people at once.
