Country market returns to York area

A rural market that aims to brings together artisans from York Region and beyond will be taking place at the end of the month at a new outdoor location.

Country Pastimes aims to recreate the feel of a rural market and provide locally sourced Christmas gifts to shoppers from York Region cities, including Vaughan, Markham and Richmond Hill, as well as the Greater Toronto area as a whole. This year’s Country Pastimes market will include farm products like apple pies, jams, chocolate brittle and greenery, as well as an array of crafts, including jewellery, barn board hangings, stained glass and tabletop arrangements.

Past markets have also included some unique items, such as festive figurines, wall art and knitted hats. The event has run since 2017 and is typically held at the Lemonville Community Centre, but this year’s market will use a curbside outdoor format, with strict safety precautions in place, such as one-way viewing lanes.

Markets like this can be a major opportunity for small farmers and artisans to get the word out about their business. Vendors at such marketplaces often distribute Business Cards to attendees to advertise their products to a wider audience.

Country Pastimes will take place at 12601 McCowan Road in Stouffville on November 27 and 28. Some items will be available for pre-order by text message.
