Aurora duo help girls prepare for prom

A mother and daughter team from Aurora recently held an event to help young girls in the area to prepare for their proms.

Having raised four children of her own, Ros Kunkle knew just how expensive a dress can be, so with daughter Linda’s help, she planned and organized ‘Your Night to Sparkle’.

Ros and Linda realized that many excited girls are left disappointed upon realizing their parents are unable to afford the dress for the one-off evening.

Held early in March at the L.H. Lind Realty building in the town, Your Night to Sparkle was a two day event during which more than 200 local students, some from as far away as Vaughan and Milton, came to pick out free dresses, purses, makeup, and other accessories.

The girls also received help with finding a dress that fits and were given advice on how to choose the right accessories. It was a chance for every girl to find the perfect dress without having to worry about the cost.

Companies which provide flyer printing services helped to promote the event, and many of the outfits and other items were donated by local families and businesses. Some others were purchased at yard or garage sales. Attendees were simply required to arrive and make their choice; no proof of financial difficulty was required. Many participants will return their dresses after they have worn them to the event, but some may choose to keep them as a memento of their prom.
