An artists’ organization based in suburban Toronto has launched its annual spring art sale as an online exhibition and marketplace.
The Art Guild of Scarborough’s Spring Art Sale is a two-month display and sale by local artists, who come from Scarborough and nearby areas like Vaughan. Works include genres such as acrylic or oil painting, graphic design, mixed media and sculpture.
The guild was first established in 1962 and holds three annual juried shows. The spring show typically takes place at the Centennial Recreation Centre, but it has been moved to a virtual format, which allows the art to be displayed over a longer period. The guild has also adapted to the age of social distancing by holding weekly livestreams, including demonstrations and lectures by experienced artists.
The Spring Art Sale features pieces from local artists like Helen Redhead Mayer, Mary Jo Smith and Nedda Riva Zaharelos. The works include a variety of subject matter, from picturesque depictions of Canadian landscapes and culture to abstract visual pieces and sculptures.
Art sales like this, often promoted through tools like poster printing, allow artists the opportunity to generate awareness and sales by displaying and finding appreciative homes for their work.
The Art Guild of Scarborough’s Spring Art Sale launched online on April 1, and it will run until May 31.
