Residents of Toronto who would like to add to the city’s urban forest can do so at no cost thanks to a local initiative.
The Rotary Club of Willowdale, the Bayview Village Association and the City of Toronto will all be supporting this year's tree giveaway, which was formerly known as “Tree for Me”. The initiative is part of a larger plan to build a tree canopy in at least 40 percent of the city, and each Toronto resident can receive up to two saplings.
The trees will be sourced from Connon Nurseries and the City of Toronto, and the species distributed will be native to the area and suited to life in an urban environment. They will be small enough to transport by car or the Toronto Transit Commission, and shrubs, small trees and larger types, such as red oak, will be on offer.
An important step in a program like this is often to provide each household that receives a tree with care sheets so they can get it off to a great start. A flyer printing company can be counted on to prepare them, and they can be designed to include both text and graphics.
The 2021 Tree Giveaway will be set up at Forest Grove Church on June 5th. Those who would like to receive a tree are asked to register as soon as possible.
