Travel and Leisure, a New York based travel magazine, has named Toronto as one of its top 12 destinations for 2012.
The magazine’s travel writers flew all over the globe to uncover unique and entertaining travel hotspots that are either new or renewed. Toronto made the list because it is a multi-cultural city that offers a vast array of restaurants, festivals, concerts, movies, and galas from all over the world. Travellers can walk down one street and be surrounded by outdoor markets and restaurants in Chinatown, and then relax at an Italian sports bar a few blocks away.
Other top travel destinations for 2012 include secluded resorts in North Coast, Mozambique, the stunning natural beauty of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, eating seafood in a remote part of South Bahia, Brazil, and the cutting edge architecture and youthful energy of one of Portugal’s oldest cities, Guimaraes.
Tourist highlights in Toronto include the Toronto International Film Festival, any number of restaurant enclaves in Chinatown, Little Italy, Greektown, Portugal Village, Little India or Cabbagetown, shopping in Yorkdale, and a rich, eclectic, live music scene.
For a full range of things to do in Toronto, there are many websites that list restaurants, museums, nightlife, kids events and sporting venues. Schedules and programs can be viewed online or downloaded in a flyer printing format.
