Ottawa art fest to highlight Mexican culture

This year’s NOIR Art Festival will bring dozens of professional artists to Ottawa, with a theme dealing with the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday.

The festival will be a three-day exhibition with works in a variety of graphic styles and media. Artists involved range from figure and landscape artists like Bev Thibault and Heather Lovat-Fraser to abstract mixed media creators such as Judith Anderson and Tamara Campbell, with photography and sculpture also represented. Art exhibits like this often incorporate eye-catching works into flyer printing and social media posts to help draw attention.

The festival will also include a number of events over the course of the weekend. These include meet-and-greets with various artists, and a special altar-lighting ceremony honouring legendary artists Frida Kahlo and Emily Carr, tying together the exhibit’s Mexican and Canadian roots. Prior to the exhibition’s opening there will be a VIP gala, with guests encouraged to come dressed in traditional Day of the Dead face paint and costumes. The gala will feature a gastronomic salon, live musical performances, and a silent auction for art pieces benefiting the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation.

The 2023 NOIR Art Festival will take place from November 2 to 5 at the Horticulture Building in Lansdowne Park. There will be free admission to the exhibition after 3 PM on the 4th and 5th.
