RockPro brings anti-bullying message to students

Instructors from RockPro music center brought their anti-bullying message to the students at Blessed John XXIII Catholic elementary school in Mississauga recently.

The performers combined music and dancing with a positive lesson about dealing with bullies.

RockPro owner Cliff Calloway and several instructors played a variety of songs and taught the school’s 196 students to deal with bullying by applying the principles of “R.O.C.K.”. The acronym stands for ‘respect yourself and others, open up to someone if you have a problem, have confidence in yourself and keep away from bullies’.

The concert was enjoyed by all of the students, and the special performance of songs by Mississauga band Morning Thieves really pleased the crowd. Banner printing companies created large anti-bullying Posters and Signs, which were displayed on the stage with the performers. This further helped to drive the message home.

The singers and musicians hoped to show the students how developing confidence can be one of the best ways to deal with the growing problem. They hoped that by encouraging students to get up on stage and perform, they could be made to feel good about themselves. One of the performers even put on a brightly coloured afro wig and did some break dance moves, drawing cheers and applause from the excited audience.

RockPro intends to hit the road with its ‘R.O.C.K. Out’ show, taking the message around the region. Performances in two other Catholic schools in the area are also planned for the near future.
