Vengeful barber comes to Mississauga

Mississauga will host a stage production of Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

One of musical theatre’s most unsettling and enduring stories, Sweeney Todd, explores themes of injustice, obsession, and revenge through a blend of dark humour and dramatic score, set against the backdrop of 19th-Century London.

The narrative centres on a barber who reappears in London after years of exile, driven by the desire to confront the judge responsible for his downfall. His path crosses with Mrs Lovett, the sharp-witted operator of a destitute bakery, where he establishes a new barber space upstairs. Their alliance, formed out of convenience and desperation, gradually transforms as Todd’s obsession deepens and Mrs Lovett’s pie shop unexpectedly thrives, entangling both characters in increasingly dark consequences.

The production features Mickey Woyshner, who takes on the role of Sweeney Todd, and Erica Astles as Mrs Lovett. The cast also includes Carson Lamb, Ella Micallef-Sanguigni, and Hunter Aquino, alongside an ensemble supporting the story’s many intersecting threads and musical numbers. Due to its mature themes and graphic content, the production is rated R.

Poster printing plays a role in supporting theatre productions like this one by helping performances reach local audiences through visible promotion in community spaces.

The Meadowvale Theatre, 6315 Montevideo Rd, Mississauga, will present Sweeney Todd on Sunday, February 8 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
