Fundraising brunch to be held in Mississauga

For teens living with mental health issues, the world can seem like a lonely place. A Mississauga group wants to do what it can to help change that.

The Mississauga Citizens for the Advancement of Community Development (CACD) will be hosting its annual fundraising brunch to collect money to help support programs for at-risk youth.

The money raised will be used to help administer and deliver the Crime Prevention Through Mental Health Awareness program. This will start in September, and will promote positive mental health by connecting high school students with services in their home community.

Through its administration of the after school and Pathways to Leadership programs, the CACD encountered these problems and it wants to make a difference.

It is hoped that this will make it easier for kids coping with depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders, self-harming behaviors, anti-social behaviors, and other issues to reach out and ask for help. It will allow their voices to be heard.

The brunch will be held at the Crowne Plaza Toronto Airport Hotel, form 1pm – 4pm. Tickets cost $25-$45, and can be purchased from the organization.

The keynote speaker will be Prof. Carl James from York University.

A firm that provides printing services can help to raise awareness of mental health issues by producing pamphlets for distribution in the community. These can also be given to guests who attend the brunch. This will let them know just where the money they have helped to raise will be going.
