Life has been tough lately for Mississauga resident Alex Pallotta, but she isn’t letting that stop her. She is fighting back, and helping others along the way through fundraising efforts.
Last fall, she was diagnosed with a form of cancer called non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It quickly spread, and she was given just a 50 percent chance of survival. She was treated at Princess Margaret Cancer Center in Toronto, and she firmly believes that the care and concern shown to her by the staff was instrumental in saving her life.
Now, she wants to give something back.
She put together Team Alex, and joined the Journey to Conquer Cancer – a five kilometer walk or run that raises money for cancer research and the hospital.
Originally setting her fundraising goal at $500, Pallotta soon exceeded that. She raised it to $30,000, and she is well on her way to achieving that amount. In this, her first year to participate, she has become one of the event’s top fundraisers.
Once her rounds of chemotherapy and radiation therapy are completed, she wants to go back to teaching. She had plans to take a position as a French teacher, but these had to be put on hold until she recovered.
A firm that provides printing services can help to reach a fundraising goal. It can produce promotional items that can be sold or given as a way to say ‘thank you’ for a donation.
