Exports up in print industry in October

Any printing company in Mississauga, Ontario, can take heart in the fact that the export numbers for the Canadian Print industry are actually up. StatsCan reported recently that October of 2010 is the fifth month in the year that the 2010 numbers have outpaced their counterparts from 2009. However, the import numbers for 2010 are still down, albeit by only a little, compared to their counterparts from 2009.

The import numbers in the Canadian print industry for 2010 are at $119.7 million for the month of October. This compares with the $120.6 million worth of imports that the industry recorded last year in 2009 for the month of October. This is softness, but it is not that bad.

On the export side, the numbers are much improved since for the month of October in 2010, the figures came in at $85.7 million. This compares with the month of October of 2009, which had a total of $79.5 million in total exports.

Year-to-date numbers are a little bit different, as they present weakness in 2010 for both exports and imports compared to the numbers from 2009. In 2010, exports totalled $804.8 million for the year-to-date period, while they totalled $820.3 million for the same year-to-date period in 2009. Imports totalled exactly $1 billion for 2010 in the year-to-date period, while they totalled $1.1 billion for the same year-to-date period in 2009.

Any printing company that is based in Mississauga may feel buoyed by the higher export numbers for October, which bodes well for business in 2011.
