Top cyclists to ride in Milton

The second stage of the Ontario Cup will be held in Milton this January, inviting the top amateur cyclists from throughout the province to test their skills.

The event is sponsored by Ontario Cycling and makes use of Milton’s state-of-the-art Mattamy National Cycling Center. There will be different competitions based on age group and gender, with the youngest open to riders just eight years of age, and the possibility for teen riders to enter the adult category based on skill. Each day will feature different track cycling disciplines. The first day will focus on individual time trials, sprints, and scratch races, while the second will up the competition with keiren, elimination, and Madison races.

The January event is one of three Ontario Cup, or O-Cup events, each with a different selection of events, as part of an initiative to give competitive cyclists more opportunities in a new-look competition. Youth and para-riders are also included in the O-Cup. Top participants will be looking to prepare for the Provincial competition at the end of the indoor cycling season. Amateur athletic competitions like this often use methods like trophies and banner printing to commemorate top finishers as well as historic events.

The second Ontario Cup event of the season will take place at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton on January 18 and 19, 2025.
