Touring company brings musical productions to Guelph

Playful Fox Productions, a touring theatrical company in Southern Ontario, will be giving Guelph a double shot with two of the most infamous musicals this September.

The company will be performing Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Sweet earlier in the month, and The Rocky Horror Show later on. Sweeney Todd is an acclaimed musical written by Stephen Sondheim about a barber in Victorian England who seeks revenge against the nobility that has wronged him. The Rocky Horror Show is an adaptation of the cult favourite 1970s horror-musical that has become a Halloween tradition, with audience members often encouraged to participate and sing along to songs like “Let’s Do The Time Warp Again.”

Both plays will draw on local acting talent from throughout the Southern Ontario area as well as the efforts of experienced crew members and volunteers. Local theatrical productions often also draw on local businesses’ supports, such as sponsors or marketing material from Print shops. Both shows are intended for a mature audience. Playful Fox tours Guelph as well as nearby cities like Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo. The group has previously visited Guelph for musicals such as The Little Mermaid and Anastasia.

The Playful Fox production of Sweeney Todd will be staged in Guelph from September 12 to 14, while The Rocky Horror Show will run from September 26 to 28. Both plays will take place at the Guelph Little Theatre building.
