CluedUpp, a series of mystery games, will be holding a special event in Guelph this October, just in time for the Halloween season.
The event, called The Guelph Ripper, will challenge teams of up to six to solve a fictitious crime based on the famous case of Jack the Ripper by traveling around the city gathering clues. Each team will be given a secret starting location, and navigate the story through a phone app. Teams will be able to pause the game to stop for food or drink and are encouraged to make a day of it. Participants are also encouraged to dress the part, with costumes fitting of old-time detectives.
At the end of the day, there will be a series of prizes awarded, from Fastest Team and Best Fancy Dress to Pawesome Pooch for those who take their dogs along on the journey. The CluedUpp events are designed to be a social distancing friendly and more adventurous version of the classic murder mystery party.
To date, the company has held over 5,000 events in 58 countries, and it boasts over one million players. Playful events like this have experienced a surge in popularity in recent years from young people looking for unique experiences, with organizers often using methods like poster printing and social media to reach a wide audience.
The Guelph Ripper will take place across the city on October 2.
